Hello again, mmm another couple of missed blog days, not because I was lazy but more because I am waiting for things to happen...
Therefore I will just give you a quick update of Tues and Weds events rather than another long (but hopefully entertaining) blog.
In terms of employment, I managed to confirm with Peter Jones back in Essex Probation, that my reference has been sent to the first ministry requesting it. I contacted them to confirm receipt, which they did, but they also said the manager of the post is off ill at the moment - so no decision will be made until this time next week - they also said that one other candidate is being interviewed later this week...mmm, suddenly it is looking less in the bag and more on the up in the air again.
The other ministry job is very keen to progress and have already asked for references ahead of my formal panel interview early next week - so hopefully this one will come out OK too.
As mentioned in my update summary (see panel on lower right), the third application I had on the go for the Ministry of Justice and the least paid, non-managerial post, contacted me on Tuesday to say they thought I was way to over qualified and skilled for the position. A nice compliment for my ego, but not so good for my bank balance. The manager concerned is really nice and had been pedaling my CV around his fellow managers since my interview the other week, unfortunately none of them had any openings suitable for me. Still, he also suggested I contact another agency here in Wellington called IDPE, but before I could they had already emailed me - I have an interview with them coming up later next week.
So overall the job situation has slowly progressed, with the current applications looking at completing by this time next week. I have also identified a couple of other government posts which I shall be applying for over the coming days, so I remain hopeful.
My social life is still going very well considering how new I am to Wellington, so that is nice. I am extremely interested in meeting this Wellywood film maker on Friday this week, and in my more creative moments I really consider giving up all this IT support stuff. Actually in an effort not to loose my new found impetus for all things creative and the relaxed nature of my life over the last few weeks, I will maybe push for a 4 day week contract from any offer I can get...after all money is not everything!
Talking about creative things, I mentioned that I am working on an idea for a book and I would give you a few details in a future blog. Well I called it a book because it is not actually a story or anything, but a collection of photo's themed around a subject. Without giving too much away here I can say the nub of the idea actually came from my last days in the UK, but I am really getting into it out here and have taken about 30 shots so far. I also researched some publishers today and checked out the competition in local bookshops. The overall aim is for a coffee table type, large high quality format style of book, with minimal text.
As it is a pretty photographically intensive project, I am only taking 'idea shots' at the moment for the possibility of having them retaken by a jobbing photographer out here - my skill being one limiting factor, another being my camera. Anyway, like I said I am really getting into this and I think it will have a perfect little market here in Wellington, both tourist and locals alike should be interested in it. It will not make me a fortune, but I think it is something that needs to exist, so I will continue with it.
I will give more details, including the subject matter, once I have secured the idea - blogs have ears you know ;)
There you go, another shorter blog today, but if I let it slip I would maybe loose some of the 25 daily readers! Mmm not up with the Sun readership I guess, but as I have said before, it is quality not quantity which counts in the end!
